Botanists tell us that there are many varieties of white, yellow, red, purple, and pink wildflowers, but a blue wildflower is rare.  So, it makes sense for a place as unique as Texas to choose the bluebonnet for the state flower.  Texas has more than 5,000 kinds of wildflowers.  There are at least five varieties of bluebonnets in Texas.  The scene painted is near Lampasas.
